Final Science Fair Project Due 2-13-12
Presentation begin this day
Science fair is a school wide fifth grade project. While we will help keep students on track with this project, the experiment and bulk of the work will be done at home. Below please find the science fair packet complete with dates and instructions.
READING:
New component added to reading. All students will have a book letter due on Wednesday, February 8. Students have an example from class and are already familiar with the post-its which are one part of the book letter.
The student are responsible for 2 Post-its each night and a Bookmark. Reading skills that we are working on include questioning, predicting and inferring.
Please make sure your child is reading 20 minutes each night.
WRITING:
This week students will continue our rotations with emphasis on parts of speech, spelling and reading activities.
SPELLING:
Our spelling pretest takes place on Monday with a test on Friday of this week. A list of spelling words will be sent home, please have your child study the words to prepare for the test on Friday.
We are expanding our spelling program this year to include a broader study of vocabulary. Standardized tests show that many students across the nation lag behind in vocabulary skills. To improve student’s skills in this area, we will be devoting more time to the study of prefixes, suffixes, idioms, analogies, homophones and other vocabulary basics. We also will teach and reinforce the most important spelling rules. Through a study of vowel patterns and in-context usage, your child will learn to use and spell high frequency words. These new words are reinforced with a weekly spelling assessment on Friday.
