FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (AND ANSWERS) BY STUDENTS AND PARENTS
How much time should my child be spending on homework each night?
-- Generally speaking, your child should spend roughly an hour each night working on assignments. This may vary because of a number of factors. If your child has waited until the last minute to work on a longer term assignment, they may be spending significantly more than an hour working in an evening. If your child has been absent, they may need to spend a little more to get caught up. If your child uses/doesn't use their study hall/class time efficiently, they may be spending less or more time at home accordingly.
What should I do if my child is spending a lot more than an hour working on homework each evening?
--First, check your child's assignment notebook and make sure they're working on assignments that are actually due. Sometimes students will go home and try and finish an entire spelling packet in one evening, when they actually have four nights to work on it. Other times they will work on projects that may not be due for weeks (trying to get it done as fast as possible) when there very well could be significant class time for students to work on them in class. You can always check your child's teacher's wiki for a list of assignments to double check that what your child has written down is correct.
Are teachers available for help?
--Generally speaking, every teacher is available to help your child from 8 - 8:30 before school. Some of us may have a specific day that doesn't work for them because of regularly scheduled activities (your child will be told those days). However, if your child needs help another teacher should be available. While we appreciate an email or "appointment" made by your child ahead of time, it is not necessary. If before school doesn't work for you, have your child talk with the teacher. Most likely there will be a point in the day (during homeroom, study hall, lunch) that your child can get the help they need.
Below you will find numerous team documents (wish lists, field trip forms, etc).
