Homework: Your student has been given an assignment notebook. We will be checking during flex time that assignments are written correctly in the appropriate places. In general, we do not post daily assignments on our Wikis, we use the Wiki to post large project due date or test dates as well as other information about our classes.
Language Arts:
-Spelling packets are handed out each week on Monday. They are due on Friday (or Thursday in a shortened week). Spelling tests are given the same day packets are due.Literature:
-Unit 1 in our literature series focuses on story structure (character, setting, plot), main ideas and details, and cause and effect relationships. The vocabulary skills focus on multiple meanings and choosing the correct definition of a word based on how that word is used in context.
-We are currently reading short stories from our literature anthology, Treasures.
You can now access the Treasures book online at home. In order to do this, click here Online Treasures Book or visit http://macmillanmh.com/ose/ website.
Under student login, enter the access code: ACC821E5F9. This is the same code for all students using the 6th grade Treasures Series.
Science:
-Our first science book of the year is Inside the Restless Earth. We will be learning about minerals and rocks that make up our planet's crust. We will also be studying plate tectonics, earthquakes, and volcanoes.
Social Studies:
-We are currently reading Chapter One (Early Civilizations) in our social studies textbook. We'll learn about paleolithic and neolithic time periods and do a history's mystery project on Otzi the Iceman. After that, we will learn about Mesopotamia and the early empires that started in the Fertile Crescent. As we near the end of Chapter One, a test date will be posted under Important Dates.
